Hatching Instructions
Follow these steps for successful hatching:
-
Prepare the saltwater:
- Use 25g to 35g of salt per litre (approximately 1 soupspoon).
- Add approximately 2g of brine shrimp eggs per litre.
- Use tap water and pour the salt into the cone while the air pump is running.
- If using kitchen salt, add approximately 3g (1 teaspoon) of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).
-
Maintain proper water temperature:
- Ensure the water temperature stays between 26°C - 29°C during incubation.
- Avoid exceeding 30°C, as improper temperature control is the main reason for poor hatching results.
-
Set up air circulation:
- The air line should reach the bottom of the hatching vessel to ensure vigorous and homogenous mixing.
- Do not use an air stone.
-
Add eggs:
- Add the eggs to the hatching water and ensure the air keeps the eggs in suspension.
- Eggs will hatch into nearly microscopic "Nauplii" (babies) within 18 to 30 hours.
-
Harvesting Nauplii:
- Remove the air tube and wait 2 to 5 minutes for the orange nauplii to settle at the bottom of the cone.
- After 24 hours, stop aeration and wait 10 minutes until nauplii settle at the bottom. Empty shells will float to the surface.
- Siphon the nauplii onto a sieve, rinse carefully with tap water, and feed to your aquatic animals.
