Reef•Basis Kalkwasser is a premium-quality calcium hydroxide, crafted using the original German limewater method. It provides essential calcium to promote increased growth rates in corals, coralline algae, crustaceans, and many other marine organisms.

Use in Aquarium Keeping

Kalkwasser is primarily designed for maintenance and does not act rapidly. If your aquarium has severely depleted calcium levels that need to be raised quickly, it is recommended to first use Reef•Basis Calcium.

Proper calcium control is crucial for the health and growth of corals and many other invertebrates. Continuum advises maintaining the following aquarium parameters:

• Calcium levels: 410–450 mg/L (ppm)
• Alkalinity levels: 7–11 dKH (2.5–4 meq/L)
• Magnesium levels: 1250–1350 mg/L (ppm)

Note: For aquarists keeping SPS corals, it is recommended to maintain alkalinity between 7 and 9 dKH (2.5–3.21 meq/L).

Expert Use

This product is intended for advanced hobbyists who are familiar with Kalkwasser. Follow these steps carefully:

1. Do not add powder directly to the aquarium!
2. Dissolve 6 grams (approximately 2 teaspoons) of the product in 1 gallon of purified water to create a saturated solution.
3. Stir vigorously and let the solution stand for several hours.
   • A white precipitate will form at the bottom of the container, and a crust may appear on the surface. This is normal.
4. Decant the clear liquid into a dosing system and drip it slowly over several days.
5. Discard the precipitate.

Dosage Guide: Each gallon of Kalkwasser solution will raise the calcium level by 48 ppm in a 20-gallon (80 L) aquarium. Use a high-quality test kit to monitor calcium levels and adjust the addition rate as needed to maintain the desired level.
